2 Green Bay Packers Fined for Antics in Wild Card Loss to Philadelphia Eagles

The Green Bay Packers season ended when they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles by the score of 22-10 last weekend. Unfortunately, it was game that the young Green Bay roster simply was not prepared for, whether it be by the coaches or due to their own immaturity.

Throughout the contest, the Packers made multiple mental mistakes, committed four turnovers, and committed foolish penalties. The first of these miscues came on the opening kickoff when Keisean Nixon took the ball out of the endzone. He was hit hard by Eagles linebacker (and former Packer) Oren Burks and fumbled the ball.

Replay showed that Burks had hit Nixon’s helmet with his own and that Green Bay had recovered the fumble. Alas, the ball was awarded to Philadelphia, who scored a touchdown with the short field in front of them.

One play that was certainly a mistake by Green Bay was when Packers defensive tackle TJ Slaton push Eagles running back Saquon Barkley to the ground after a play had been whistled dead:

Additionally, Nixon was whistled for a personal foul of his own later in the game when he hit an Eagles player out of bounds.

On Saturday, the NFL announced that both Slaton and Nixon were fined $11,255 each:

These fines were more than the $8,333 fine the NFL laid on Burks for his hit on Nixon on the opening kickoff, which was not flagged by the officials at the time.
