KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Chiefs added a veteran tight end to their practice squad on Monday.
Heading into the final two weeks of the 2024 regular season, the Chiefs announced Monday the signing of former Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings tight end Robert Tonyan.
The 30-year-old tight end who thus far has spent his entire career in the NFC North, will join Kansas City’s practice squad. He joins a tight end room battered and bruised by injury this season.

His addition came on the same day tight end Peyton Hendershot, who the Chiefs made a trade with the Dallas Cowboys to acquire before the beginning of the regular season, was designated for return from injured reserve.
In seven career seasons, Tonyan has played in 90 games, securing 148 catches, 1,549 yards and 17 total touchdowns.
His best season of his career was in 2020, when he helped Aaron Rodgers win an NFL MVP with a career-high 52 receptions for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns. Tonyan played in five games for the Vikings this season but did not have any catches.
Kansas City has dealt with injuries this season in the tight end room that ended the seasons of Jody Fortson and Jared Wiley. They also have dealt with Hendershot spending time on injured reserve and Baylor Cupp being placed on the practice squad injured list.
During Saturday’s Week 16 win over the Houston Texans, Kansas City played with Travis Kelce, Noah Gray and Anthony Firkser as its active tight ends.
The Chiefs also placed linebacker Jack Cochrane on injured reserve after he fractured his ankle on Saturday.
