Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker interviews for NFL head coach job

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Mike Vrabel has interviewed for the open New York Jets head coach job, the team announced on Friday. Vrabel was let out of his contract as an advisor for the Cleveland Browns a week early so he could start interviewing for open positions, and he expects to land a new job this offseason.

Vrabel, surprisingly fired by the Tennessee Titans last offseason, took on a temporary role under Kevin Stefanski for the season as he waited out the storm to land another head coach position.

The Jets are the first team to interview Vrabel, and he is free to interview with any team since he is technically a free agent. In addition to the Jets job, he should be a candidate in Chicago as well.

Vrabel played linebacker for the Steelers from 1997 to 2000 before heading to the New England Patriots for the next eight seasons. He got into coaching after his retirement in 2010, rising to become a head coach in 2018. While with the Titans, he went 54-45 and 2-3 in the postseason, including an AFC Championship appearance.
