Mike McCarthy’s contract expires on Tuesday, so he and all of his assistant coaches will be free to interview with other teams if a new deal isn’t reached.
How fans reacted:
“This is Jason Garrett all over again,” one fan said.
“The Dallas Cowboys have been eliminated from the 2025 NFL Playoffs,” another fan commented.
“I don’t get it, man,” one shocked fan added.
“The Dallas Cowboys are beyond cooked 🗑️🗑️🗑️,” another X user said of Mike McCarthy coming back.
One final fan said: “Those two clowns 🤡 deserve each other.”
McCarthy was seemingly on the hot seat midway through the season after Dallas lost five straight games.
He has been with the Cowboys since January 2020 and has posted a 49-35 record. In the postseason, he has a 1-3 record.
He joined the organization after the Green Bay Packers fired him in 2018.
The Writing Was On The Wall After The Cowboys Denied Interview Request For Mike McCarthy
The Dallas Cowboys’ preparation to keep McCarthy was basically written on the wall after they denied the Chicago Bears permission to interview him.
Chicago requested to speak with him on Monday.
Jones said Sunday he would be open to granting McCarthy permission to speak to other teams, but that denial means that he is on his way back.
