Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce knew there would be consequences but didn’t care.
In the Chiefs’ 29-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day – a victory that locked up the No. 1 seed in the AFC and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs – Kelce had a history-making moment and wanted to celebrate.
After logging his third of the season and 77th of his career, which moved him past Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez for the most touchdown catches in franchise history, Kelce paid homage to Gonzalez.
The All-Pro TE dunked the football over the crossbar of the goal posts – a tip of the cap to Gonzalez who was also a star basketball player at the University of California – which drew a flag for excessive celebration.
The NFL fined Kelce $14,069 for unsportsmanlike conduct after the game – a fine that Gonzalez offered to pay for Kelce to honor his record-breaking achievement.

Gonzalez posted he’ll help with the fine.

“You know I had to show love to the greatest of all time!! you did mention you’d help me with the fine tho ” Kelce tweeted at Gonzalez.
“lol! I got you!” Gonzalez responded.
Well, during the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast, Kelce disclosed that Gonzalez made good on his promise and offered to pay the fine for him, but Kelce told him to just donate the money to the charitable foundations instead.
“It was a fine well worth it,” Kelce said. “Actually, Tony G helped me out with that one but instead of throwing any money at me, I just told him to send it to the foundation, so shout out to Tony G for that.”
The NFL donates money accrued through fines to the Professional Athlete’s Foundation to help support NFL legends in need and the NFL Foundation to help “further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.”
After hearing Kelce’s remarks, fans took to social media to praise him for encouraging Gonzalez to essentially double the money going to a charitable cause.
“Aww this man’s heart,” one fan wrote.
“Oh travphilanthropist ,” remarked another fan.
“Classy Boyz. Sounds like the NFL has some templates to learn from,” another responded.
“Love this!!! ,” one user replied.
“What a man ,” commented one fan.
