“The Best News Ever;” Green Bay Packers Fans Duped by False Report Concerning Rich Bisaccia

The Green Bay Packers will be keeping both their offensive coordinator, Adam Stenavich, and defensive coordinator, Jeff Hafley, after both were passed over for the head coaching jobs for which they interviewed. Stenavich lost the Chicago Bears job to Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson while Hafley missed out on the New York Jets position in favor of Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

And while Packers fans are glad to be keeping both Stenavich and Hafley around, there is one coordinator that they cannot wait to be rid of: special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia.

Earlier today (Thursday) a report from Pro Football Post was released that stated that Bisaccia was linked to the Dallas Cowboys and their open head coaching position.

“According to a high-ranking executive in the league, the Cowboys are interested in Packers special teams coordinator and former Raiders interim head coach Rich Bisaccia. Neither the Cowboys nor the Packers have responded to inquiries whether Dallas has sought or received permission from Green Bay to interview Bisaccia, who’s entering the final year of his contract in Green Bay.”

Prior to becoming the highest-paid special teams coordinator in the NFL with the Packers, Bisaccia was the interim head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. And prior to that, he was the special teams coordinator for the Cowboys for years.

The struggles of Green Bay’s special teams unit are well-documented, and fans are tired of the underperformance from that unit. The thought of Bisaccia leaving sounded great to many fans. However, a social media post by NFL insider Ed Werder, refuted the report that Dallas is interested in Bisaccia, who is also the assistant head coach for the Packers:

And while that bit of news rained on Packers’ fans parade, there were a few hours on Thursday where they were excited about the prospect of Bisaccia leaving.

There is no denying that Bisaccia is a great person and has a reputation for building strong relationships with his players. After he was dismissed by the Raiders following his successful run as interim head coach, he wrote every single player on their roster a handwritten “thank you” note for everything they put into the season with him.

But the NFL is a results-driven league, and fans were excited about the prospect of Bisaccia going elsewhere:

As mentioned by Werder, though, there is no validation to the report that Dallas has requested permission from Green Bay to talk to Bissacia.

It will be interesting, however, to see what Matt LaFleur decides to do when Bisaccia’s contract expires at the end of the 2025 season.
