Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes remains on the Super Bowl LIX injury report as he battles an ankle injury that he initially suffered Dec. 15, 2024, in a Week 14 game against the Cleveland Browns.
The Chiefs listed Mahomes as a full participant in practice for the second straight day on Thursday. Offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor (knee) and punter Matt Araiza (illness) were also full participants, while wide receiver Skyy Moore (abdomen) was a limited participant for the second consecutive as he hopes to return from the injured reserve.
Battling ankle injuries has become commonplace late in the season for Mahomes. He also suffered a high ankle sprain in the Chiefs’ first playoff game two years ago and aggravated the injury three weeks later when he faced the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
It’s a full circle moments of sorts as he is set to face the Eagles once again on Feb. 9.
Mahomes also battled an ankle sprain in the 2019 season-opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars before going on to win his first Super Bowl.

Mahomes has not missed any games due to the ankle injury this seaosn, although he did sit out Week 18 with nothing to play and had a first-round bye in the playoffs. If anything, he’s been running more than normal in the postseason.
In the Divisional Round matchup against the Houston Texans, Mahomes ripped off a 15-yard rush to pick up a first down in the first quarter. In the AFC Championship Game, he rushed 11 times for 43 yards (including three kneels) and two scores. He did, however, fumble in both games
Super Bowl Could Be Without Mahomes!!!
