Two Coaches on the Way Out? Pittsburgh Steelers Organization Faces Uncertainty

While inside linebackers coach Aaron Curry and secondary coach Grady Brown have each departed the Pittsburgh Steelers organization, that does not mean coaching changes are necessarily all done.

Chris Halicke of DK Pittsburgh Sports reported two weeks ago that defensive line coach Karl Dunbar and outside linebackers coach Denzel Martin were not certain to be brought back either, and sources confirmed to PennLive that both coaches were on expiring deals.

Dunbar has been with the Steelers since 2018 when they plucked him from Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama. During his tenure in Pittsburgh, Dunbar has worked with not only the defensive line, but the outside linebackers on top of that.

During that time, T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward ascended to elite status. Javon Hargrave ended up becoming a prized free agent. Meanwhile, he has developed Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, and Keeanu Benton. It is an impressive resume that has shown up time and time again for the Steelers, and with expected heavy draft capital going into that position this offseason, keeping Dunbar around would be wise.

Martin started as the team’s assistant outside linebackers coach before being promoted properly to just outside linebackers coach. He worked closely with a unit that is playing at a high level.
