Bill Cowher Urges Major Overhaul of Pittsburgh Steelers Organization Following Playoff Loss

The Pittsburgh Steelers have trudged along with the same core they have put out there for multiple years at this point, and with Mike Tomlin at the helm for a brutal six-game postseason losing streak; the team seems stuck in neutral.

So, what will have to happen for things to change? Former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher says it is time for the team to look itself in the mirror and make uncomfortable, drastic changes.

“Probably need some changes on that football team, players, coaches,” Cowher said. “Right now, that’s going to stick with them for a long time. It’s not that they lost. It’s the manner in which they lost.”

Everyone around the national media seems bewildered about the Steelers, and for the first time in a long time, there are questions about Tomlin’s future in Pittsburgh. He will be back, but is he the right man to lead the Steelers into the future, given the net negatives they have with him at the helm?

The more losses that stack up in the postseason and questions that continue to arise, the more that answer appears to be no. As for drastic changes, the Steelers will make some on the coaching staff and the roster, but nothing will be earth-shattering.

Skip Bayless pleas for Steelers to trade coach Mike Tomlin to Cowboys

Skip Bayless has made his feelings known on who he wants the next Dallas Cowboys coach to be and did so as only he can — with an all caps plea on social media.

Since the Pittsburgh Steelers lost in Saturday night’s Wild Card Round game against the Baltimore Ravens, speculation has grown surrounding head coach Mike Tomlin’s future in Pittsburgh. Chase Daniel wondered on Saturday night that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones may be dragging his feet in contract talks with Mike McCarthy (whose contract expires on Tuesday), thinking that Tomlin may become available. Similarly, before Sunday’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles, Jimmy Johnson floated the idea of the Cowboys and Steelers swapping coaches.

That’s music to Bayless’ ears. Bayless, who rarely misses a chance to make his love of the Cowboys known, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, literally begging for the Steelers to send Tomlin to Dallas.

“PLEASE, STEELERS, PLEASE TRADE MIKE TOMLIN FOR MIKE MCCARTHY. PRETTY PLEASE,” he said.

We do have some unfortunate news for Bayless.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on Sunday that the Steelers aren’t likely to move on from Tomlin.

“Despite a widespread public outcry and another embarrassing early exit from the postseason, the Steelers are not planning to make any move involving coach Mike Tomlin, according to team sources,” Dulac wrote. “After losing their sixth consecutive postseason game and being one-and-done for the eighth time under Tomlin, the Steelers will apparently attempt to fix their recurring problems with solutions that don’t involve their 18-year head coach.”

Maybe next year, Skip.
