BREAKING: Packers Unable to Retain Key Player Despite Significant Injury Update During Free Agency

The NFC North has made a significant impact in the early days of free agency, particularly with the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings leading the charge. Both teams have focused on enhancing their performance in the trenches. Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers have been relatively subdued, with their main move being the signing of left tackle Aaron Banks.

The Most Important Green Bay Packers: AJ Dillon Appears Ready For A Breakout Season

Although Banks is a valuable asset, many fans are eagerly anticipating the addition of a true No.1 wide receiver. Nonetheless, Banks’ presence should bolster the running game, which was a key strength for the Packers last season. Currently, Green Bay’s running back trio includes Josh Jacobs, Emanuel Wilson, and MarShawn Lloyd.

While this lineup appears strong on paper, some fans might consider bringing back A.J. Dillon. Dillon, who missed the entire 2024 season due to a neck injury, has now been medically cleared to return, according to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports.

However, it’s time for Green Bay to part ways with Dillon. Letting go of Dillon, despite his past productivity, could save financial resources and provide opportunities for Wilson and Lloyd to excel. In 2024, Lloyd recorded 103 carries for 502 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per carry—higher than Dillon’s past averages..

Transitioning Wilson to the RB2 role would offer a distinct contrast to Jacobs, who has a similar style to Dillon. Conversely, Lloyd has yet to prove himself at the NFL level, having missed his rookie year due to various injuries.

While Lloyd’s injury history might raise concerns about his dependability, his potential for big plays is a more promising option than holding onto Dillon.

If doubts persist about Lloyd’s future, the depth of this year’s running back class provides ample replacements for Dillon. Regardless of how the Packers’ 2025 running back lineup evolves, bringing back Dillon should not be part of their plans.
