Dallas Cowboys Legend Doesn’t Hold Back on Mike McCarthy After Blowout Loss

Over the weekend the Dallas Cowboys suffered a blowout loss to a Philadelphia Eagles team featuring its backup and third-string quarterbacks.
With Jalen Hurts injured, the Cowboys entered as slight underdogs, but the final score showed the true difference between the two teams. Philadelphia dominated the game from the opening whistle en route to a 41-7 victory.
“We knew it was going to be a different game with the plan this week,” Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said after the game. “To be honest with you, we didn’t really get to some of the things we’d hope to get to.”
Following the blowout loss, Cowboys legend Michael Irvin made it clear he believes the team lacks “discipline” and it’s time for the team to move on from McCarthy as head coach.

“Would you replace McCarthy?” was the question posed to Irvin.
“Yes I would. Yes I would. It’s just time to go in a different direction,” he said. “I hear about the late surge, ‘let’s stay with Mike McCarthy,’ I’m not on that bandwagon. What I believe is, this team needs more discipline. I’m not saying Mike McCarthy’s not a good coach, x’s and o’s coach, but I think the team needs more discipline. And it’s hard to bring that in when you say, ‘okay, this guy who doesn’t have that firm hand and discipline is now going to bring somebody else in to help him…that doesn’t work.”
McCarthy started his Cowboys tenure with a 6-10 record before three consecutive 12-5 seasons, which failed to result in playoff success. In the final year of his contract, the Cowboys sit at 7-9 with one game to play.
