Is Justin Fields about to become the Steelers’ starting QB in 2025? Insider reveals the big move

It seems the Pittsburgh Steelers may be set to give Justin Fields the starting quarterback job in 2025. After a trade from the Chicago Bears, Fields started six games for the team to start the year, leading the Steelers to a 4-2 record in those games.

According to Steelers insider Gerry Dulac, the long-term plan was to have Russell Wilson sign a deal, but after how the season ended, those things seem to be off the board. As a result, the Steelers could look to Fields as the natural solution.

“When Wilson and the Steelers agreed to a one-year, veteran minimum contract in March, it was done so with both sides intending to sign a longer deal after the season. But, with the way the season ended with five consecutive losses and a disconnect existing with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, that deal might not materialize. Wilson was brought here to help end the playoff victory drought, and it didn’t happen. Bringing in another veteran quarterback does not make sense. That’s why Fields, in all likelihood, will be given the job,” Dulac said.

Fields and Wilson are both free agents and the team has to decide what they would like to do at that spot before they enter the hallows of the offseason. The options remain incredibly limited for the Steelers, so they will have to decide what they can do there, but it sure seems like Fields will be the best option for the group.
