Here’s a look at how the Miami Dolphins (5-7) and New York Jets (3-9) match up in six key areas ahead of Sunday’s Week 14 game at Hard Rock Stadium (1 p.m., CBS):

When the Dolphins run: Miami now hasn’t had a 100-yard team rushing performance in four consecutive games. Not even the cold weather in Green Bay in last week’s 30-17 loss to the Packers could get the Dolphins to commit to the run — granted, the early deficit played a part in that. They only had 39 rushing yards on 14 attempts, with lead back De’Von Achane going for just 14 on seven carries and Raheem Mostert adding 19 yards on five rushes. Physical runners Jaylen Wright and Jeff Wilson Jr. were both active but only played one snap apiece.

A key in the run game will be what the Dolphins get out of guards Liam Eichenberg and Robert Jones. Miami’s up-and-down run game, which ranks No. 22 in the NFL, faces the Jets’ 20th-ranked run defense. Five-time Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley has missed considerable time for New York this season, and in his absence, Jamien Sherwood leads the team in tackles. As always, they have defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and linebacker Quincy Williams to worry about in that defensive front. Edge: Jets

When the Jets run: New York running back Breece Hall is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the league, but the Jets’ run game only ranks 29th with him spearheading the rushing attack. Hall is averaging a decent 4.2 yards per carry, though, as he has 692 rushing yards on 164 attempts. He is also nursing a knee injury. The Jets last hit 100 rushing yards as a team four games ago.

The right side of the offensive line is capable of opening holes, with guard Alijah Vera-Tucker and tackle Morgan Moses there. The 114 rushing yards the Dolphins surrendered against the Packers was the most in their past six games for the ninth-ranked run defense, which has Zach Sieler and Calais Campbell on the defensive line and maybe gets Anthony Walker Jr. (hamstring) back at linebacker. Miami had bad tackling habits surface in the cold temperatures of Green Bay, but refocusing on those techniques and returning to warmer weather shouldn’t make that an issue against the Jets. Edge: Dolphins

When the Dolphins pass: The cold wasn’t enough to derail quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s prolific statistical run, but it didn’t lead to a win. Tagovailoa was 37 of 46 for 365 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Situationally, though, there were some key open throws he missed, especially at the end of the first half. It resulted in one of two key turnovers on downs, the other coming on fourth-and-goal at the 1-yard line.

He faces the Jets’ No. 2 pass defense, but they could be without elite cornerback Sauce Gardner, who injured his hamstring last Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. If he can’t go, that’s more on the plate for D.J. Reed and Michael Carter, against Dolphins wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. As opponents know they must limit that combination, tight end Jonnu Smith has been on an absolute tear of late. Keep an eye on Jets cornerback Brandin Echols, too, who has two interceptions this season and has had a pair of pick-sixes in his career against Tagovailoa.

Dolphins tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm enter banged up on the left and right side of the line, respectively. This against a rather fierce Jets pass rush, which is fifth in the NFL with 37 sacks, led by 10 from defensive end Will McDonald. Quinnen Williams provides an interior pass rush, with six of his own. It’s known Tagovailoa gets the ball out quickly, so that should counteract the pressure. Tagovailoa, by the way, is 4-0 in career starts against the Jets. Edge: Dolphins

When the Jets pass: Miami finally faces future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a member of the Jets. Rodgers has thrown 19 touchdowns to eight interceptions as he is completing 62 percent of passes in what’s truly his first season leading the Jets after tearing his Achilles in last year’s opener.

His top target, of course, is wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who has 74 receptions for 763 yards this season. Last time Miami and New York matched up in December 2023, cornerback Jalen Ramsey largely shut down Wilson by shadowing him in what was a shutout victory, 30-0. Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver could opt to stick with that plan, but the Jets added Davante Adams this season. He and Allen Lazard give Rodgers other options as Miami’s nickel package could be back at full strength with cornerbacks Kendal Fuller (concussion) and Kader Kohou (back) back.

Miami will look to get its pass rush going again, and rookie first-round pick Chop Robinson faces his former college teammate at Penn State, Olu Fashanu. Fashanu is starting at left tackle after the injury to Tyron Smith. While Bradley Chubb is back at practice this week for the first time all season, it wouldn’t seem likely he gets activated for Sunday’s game. But expect it to be Robinson, Emmanuel Ogbah, Sieler and Campbell getting after Rodgers, with Ramsey and others on an occasional blitz. Edge: Dolphins

Special teams: Again, a big special teams miscue as rookie punt returner Malik Washington muffed a punt in the elements last time out in Green Bay. Kicker Jason Sanders, though, hasn’t missed a kick in his past six games. And the Dolphins could have long snapper Blake Ferguson back from the non-football illness list this week.

For the Jets, Anders Carlson has handled place-kicking duties the past two weeks, and he missed an extra point against Seattle. They have capable returners in Kene Nwangwu, who has taken a kickoff back for a touchdown this season, and Xavier Gipson, who had a punt return touchdown last year. The Dolphins gave up a long kick return in the Packers game, too. Edge: Jets

Intangibles: Dolphins are in the friendly confines of Hard Rock Stadium. They still have something to play for this season. They had three extra days’ rest ahead of this matchup after playing on Thanksgiving. And they also still have their coach and general manager. The Jets have moved on from both coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas during the regular season. Jeff Ulbrich is 1-6 as interim coach. Edge: Dolphins

PREDICTION: Dolphins 30, Jets 20
