Tua Tagovailoa Wins NFL Weekly Award: Dolphins QB Takes the Spotlight

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 12 of the NFL season for his performance in the Miami Dolphins’ 34-15 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Tagovailoa completed 29-of-40 passes for 317 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions as the Dolphins posted their third consecutive victory and the former Alabama All-American raised his record against the Patriots to 7-0.

Tagovailoa has won the AFC Offensive Player of the Week Award three times. He also earned the honor for Week 2 of the 2022 season and Week 1 of the 2023 season.

Tagovailoa is among the three former Alabama quarterbacks to win an NFL Offensive Player of the Week Award in the league program, which started in 1984. Jeff Rutledge won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week Award for Week 9 of the 1990 season with the Washington Redskins, and Jalen Hurts won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week awards for Weeks 12 and 13 of the 2022 season and Week 8 of the 2023 season.
From 1963 through 1973, The Associated Press named NFL Players of the Week, and former Alabama QBs Joe Namath, Ken Stabler and Bart Starr were recipients of Offensive Player of the Week honors during that time.
The NFL announced the Player of the Week Award winners for Week 12 on Wednesday.

The other winners were Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, NFC Offensive; Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Myles Garrett, AFC Defensive; Seattle Seahawks cornerback Coby Bryant, NFC Defensive; Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz, AFC Special Teams; and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver KaVontae Turpin, NFC Special Teams.

Tagovailoa became the eighth player from an Alabama high school or college to win an NFL Player of the Week Award this season.
