Miami Dolphins FB Alec Ingold Nominated for Prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award

The NFL announced the 32 nominees for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award with fullback Alec Ingold representing the Miami Dolphins. As a leader in the community, he established the Ingold Family Foundation in 2022, which provides youth with education, inspiration, and support.

“Alec continues to be an incredible example of what we want Dolphins players to exemplify on the field, in the locker room and in the community, and we couldn’t be prouder,” Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said in a release. “His commitment and dedication to all he does sets him apart, and his passion for making an impact on kids, especially those who can find inspiration in his own story, is truly remarkable.

“When Alec’s football journey comes to an end, his impact will continue to carry on – and that is the greatest legacy a player can leave on the game and on the community.”

The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award recognizes a player who excels both on and off the field. Established in 1970 and renamed in 1999 after the late Walter Payton, the award celebrates players who had a significant positive impact on the community.

Ingold, a three-time team captain, also assists with SOS Children’s Villages Florida and has developed a curriculum and training modules based on the lessons from his book, “The 7 Crucibles: An Inspirational Game Plan for Overcoming Adversity in Your Life.” The curriculum has since been implemented in Broward County Public Schools, impacting over 20 athletic programs and more than 17,000 student-athletes.

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward earned the honor last year and Jason Taylor (2007) was the last Dolphins player to receive the award. Current Miami defensive tackle Calais Campbell won the award while with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019.

The full list of nominees is available on the NFL’s website and the winner will be announced live at the NFL Honors on Thursday, Feb. 6.
