Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs’ starters enjoyed some rest during the regular season finale as the backups fell to the Denver Broncos 38-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Now, Mahomes and company will have Wild Card Weekend off as well after securing the AFC’s No. 1 seed and a bye in the NFL playoffs.
Amid the chase for a third-straight Super Bowl win, Mahomes’ family is dealing with personal challenges off the field. On Thursday, Randi Mahomes, the mother of Patrick, took to social media to ask for prayers for her father, Randy Martin. “I just spoke to my dad by phone today always a blessing,” Randi Mahomes wrote on X. “Please keep him in your prayers.”

Martin, Patrick Mahomes’ grandfather, has been dealing with a health battle for some time now. Back in late September, Randi Mahomes shared a photo of her father in a hospital bed, where the family was watching the first Chiefs vs. Chargers game of the season.

It is unclear what Martin is battling entering the new year, but it comes at a time when Patrick and Brittany Mahomes are also expecting their third child.

The health issue also comes nearly two years after Martin’s wife and Patrick Mahomes’ maternal grandmother passed away in April 2023 with an illness of her own.
Still, Chiefs fans received the message Randi Mahomes posted, and their thoughts and prayers are with the Mahomes family as the NFL playoffs loom.
