Steelers Release Veteran Wide Receiver 2 Days Before Playoff Game vs. Ravens

On Thursday afternoon, just two days before Saturday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Pittsburgh Steelers made the interesting decision to move on from a veteran wide receiver.
The team released wide receiver Scotty Miller from the active roster ahead of the contest. In six NFL seasons he has played in 80 games, pulling in 90 receptions for 1,154 yards and six touchdowns.
While he didn’t play a major role for the Steelers this season, he did see playing time across 13 games this season while starting one game. In those 13 games he racked up five receptions for 69 yards.
“The Steelers released receiver Scotty Miller from the active roster on Thursday. Miller signed a one-year contract with the team during the offseason,” the team said in a statement on Thursday afternoon.

The Steelers aren’t the only one who will be without a wide receiver for Saturday’s game. Earlier this afternoon Baltimore announced Pro Bowl wide receiver Zay Flowers will not play due to a knee injury suffered in last weekend’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
Fellow wide receiver Rashod Bateman knows he’ll be counted on to pick up the slack.
“The situation that we have on our hands, it doesn’t change anything about me and my role and what I got to do,” Bateman said on Thursday afternoon. “My job is to go out and make plays no matter who’s on the field. So, it might look a little different as far as where I’m at [lining up on the field]. But overall, we got a football game, and I got to go play ball.”
Baltimore and Pittsburgh kick off at 8:00 p.m. ET on Saturday night. The game will be broadcast on Prime Video.
