3 Chiefs Making it Easy for Kansas City to Say Goodbye in 2025

The Kansas City Chiefs are 11-1 after escaping Black Friday with a win against the Las Vegas Raiders, and they are almost coasting into the #1 seed in the AFC as they seek to win a third-straight Super Bowl title. The Chiefs are winning close games and are causing their fans to bite their nails nearly clean off every single week, but the Chiefs are winning and that’s what matters.

This is a team that is considered by many to be underachieving in a lot of ways based on the talent on the roster, but it’s still a really good roster all around. Even with that in mind, there are a number of players that the Chiefs won’t be missing when they inevitably leave in 2025.

Which players are making it easy for the Chiefs to say goodbye in 2025?

3 Chiefs Who Won’t Be Tough to Let Go in 2025

1. Wanya Morris – OT

It might be a little bit of a hot take to say the Chiefs should give up on Wanya Morris after just his second NFL season, but the results have not been great. Chiefs fans have been joking on Twitter/X that Wanya Morris has single-handedly put a number of defensive players in the Pro Bowl this year.

On a more serious note, the way Morris has played this season is getting Patrick Mahomes decked far too often. There are free rushers coming at Mahomes on a consistent basis which has caused the team to sign veteran and former first-round pick DJ Humphries as a last-ditch effort to raise the floor of that left tackle position.

Although you don’t necessarily want to give up on players two years into a rookie deal, especially third-round picks, I don’t know that anyone in Chiefs Kingdom would have a difficult time saying goodbye to Wanya Morris in 2025.

Second-year LT Wanya Morris hasn’t struggled as much as rookie Kingsley Suamataia, but he’s still been an overwhelming issue protecting Patrick Mahomes. In the midst of the worst game of Morris’ career, Andy Reid and Matt Nagy were left with no choice.

To start the fourth quarter, Morris was finally benched, though not for Suamataia. Joe Thuney slid over to left tackle while Mike Caliendo hopped in at guard.

Make no mistake, this is an outright disaster. Thankfully, Kansas City signed D.J. Humphries last week and survived the Black Friday game in another close call.

Chiefs Bench Wanya Morris During 4th Quarter vs. Raiders

Mahomes was harassed all game long, getting sacked three times after being taken down five times against the Panthers. Maxx Crosby is an elite player but otherwise, the Raiders’ defensive line is nothing to write home about.

Despite the wild two-point victory, there are positives to come away with. The defense was excellent, the crowd was engaged, and the new kicker, Matthew Wright, was perfect. Even still, it’s dangerous to let Mahomes get pressured as much as he was.

Even against Crosby, that falls on Morris’ shoulders. The right side wasn’t much better as Jawaan Taylor suffered a poor game. Aside from a few defensive gaffes and a couple of missed throws, most of the issues in this contest can be laid at Morris and Taylor’s shoulders.

There is plenty of time for the team to get better. They’ll need to if there’s any chance at winning a third consecutive Super Bowl. Fortunately, Humphries’ inevitable arrival should help matters while Morris goes back to being a dependable backup instead of a starer.

Future Chiefs Hall of Famer Chris Jones spoke to the media after Kansas City’s win against the Raiders, declaring he intended to speak to the NFLPA about the Chiefs’ ridiculous scheduling moving forward.

Even the NFL knows how bad Kansas City’s schedule is. Most would assume that the league would prefer to cater to the attention created by a theoretical three-peat, but nobody told those who make the schedules.

Based on Jones’ comments, the team realizes they were set up to fail.
