Russell Wilson Shines with Career-High in Steelers’ Win Against Bengals

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson set a new career-best against the Cincinnati Bengals in the team’s 44-38 win. While throwing for 414 yards, the most he has put up since 2019, Wilson attacked the middle of the field relentlessly against the Bengals’ Cover 2 and Tampa 2 heavy scheme.

Wilson has never been a player known for throwing to the middle of the field much, but he ripped multiple balls up the seam and into the middle of the field on Sunday. In fact, according to TruMedia, it was the most yards Wilson has ever put up in the middle of the field against a team.

Wilson entrusted offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s game plan and executed it to perfection. Running back Najee Harris said the Steelers knew what the Bengals would run for most of the game, and they went after it.

“We just knew exactly what they were gonna do bringing certain pressures and certain looks,” Harris said.
That was clear as Harris hit on some big-time screens behind blitzes. When the Steelers knew how the Bengals would attack them, they dialed up the exact plays to beat those concepts. That led to Wilson having one of the best games of his entire career.
